LGBT Network Older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans Persons Group
The Older LGBT Persons group will be meeting on the 29th August at 2.00pm The Polari Lounge, 52 Piccadilly, Hanley.
Greetings on another hot summer's day,
Our last group meeting coincided with England's game against Germany in the World Cup and was also a very hot sunny day. Despite all that, it was heartening to see two more new faces join us as we held our first meeting in the first-floor of the Polari Lounge in Piccadilly, Hanley.
Everyone was pleased that one of the suggestions for publicising the group mentioned at the last meeting had been acted upon... with the promise from Cheshire Cheese to publish a piece about the group in their next issue. If anyone knows of an equivalent publication in Staffordshire...please let us know...because we couldn't think of one on Sunday.
We could just about squeeze around the circular table which allowed for easy conversation. As well as considering activities for July, we spent time considering the production of a group leaflet. One suggestion for inclusion in the leaflet was an offer of 'confidential contacts' ...where individual older LGBT people in the community could speak to a member of the group in confidence. This would require people willing to accept calls. A couple of members have expressed a willingness to undertake this kind of peer support, however more are needed, so please get in touch if this is something you would like to do. Any other ideas for the leaflet would also be welcome.
Greg was invited to speak to the group about Stoke Pride on Saturday 14th August at Northwood Park Hanley. It was generally felt that we should participate in the event as fully as possible. Last year over 5,000 people attended Pride in Northwood Park...this year we are expecting more. So we will need all the volunteers we can get. Billy Elliot The Musical: Wed 21 - Sat 24 July at the Regent Hanley Tickets £14 - £18 (if enough people are interested we could get a small reduction)
LGBT Cycle Ride Saturday 24th July - meet 1:00pm Ford Green Hall (the older LGBT Group was well represented at the last event which started at Westport Lake)
Organ Prom at the Victoria Hall Hanley 12:00 24th July - Simon Preston - International concert organist - Tickets £4:50 (£4 concessions)
Bleak House New Vic Theatre 7.30pm with pre-show Walk-Through including back stage at 7:00 - tickets £9:50 - £17:50 (concessions available and lower prices for matinees)
We are trying to establish a small library of books which people can borrow, so if you have anything suitable, please bring them along to the Polari Lounge 52 Piccadilly Hanley ....Official opening date for the downstairs Polari Lounge Coffee Shop is Monday 2nd August
Next meeting 2.00pm Sunday 25th July at The Polari Lounge, 52 Piccadilly, Hanley (As usual, I will be having lunch at The Fat Cat - Cafe-Bar, Trinity Street Hanley around 1:00pm)
